Parkinson's Disease Parkinson's Disease is a movement disorder, and the second most common nuerodegenerative disorder and the most common movement disorder, often prevalent in men ages 50-70. It is characterized by loss of muscle control, which leads to the trembling of limbs and head while at rest. As symptoms worsen, simple tasks become unmanageable. Symptoms:
Shaking or tremoring of hands, arms, or legs
Stiff and aching muscles
Slow, limited movement
Weakness of face or throat muscles
Difficulty walking and maintaining balance
Cramps in muscles
Decreasing coordination
What Causes Parkinson's Disease? Parkinson's is caused by the deterioration of nerve cells in the brain. This interferes with the communication that allows for smooth muscle movement. Other causes of Parkinson's are age, heredity, and too much stress. Although heredity is a cause for Parkinson's, it is not directly linked to the disease.
